By profession, as provider of news and information service about cars all over the world, "FORMULA" magazine is deeply committed to the world of cars which, unfortunately, are responsible for creating significant pollutants. It is our direct duty to keep the public informed of modern car performances, fuel, energy, chemicals and new innovations that are free of, or create less, environmental pollution.

Based on marketing information, we believe that by the end of 1992, the domestic car market will reach an important juncture where upon the stream of imported CBUs will converge with that of the very best CKDs locally assembled by the skill of Thais hands that have been well honed for over 20 years. The juncture we believe is the beginning of the golden age of "motor cars" in Thailand.

One moral obligation of “FORMULA”, in the course of its duty as a branch of the mass media, is to contribute to the improvement of society. Today, if we may, we wish to request you to “RE-UNDERLINE THE IMPORTANCE OF LIFE”. This is a plea for everyone concerned to be more conscious of safety. We wish to call upon every segment of society to pay attention to safety in using cars and roads, to save the lives of ours and others’ alike, because we believe human lives are the most precious of all resources.

Bangkok traffic conditions are reaching a critical stage. It is said that the major cause is imbalance between the number of cars and available road space. Therefore, “FORMULA” is of the opinion that a more appropriate solution should be trying to make the best use of the limited available road space. There are many ways to achieve this, and one of them is to promote greater use of small or city cars.

Even though there are many be other branches of technology today that are more advanced than that of the automobile, but the essentials of such technologies have always been transferred to the automobile. There are numerous examples of advances technologies that can be found in the latest generation of automobiles. This is a result from borderless linking of all branches of technology, spurred on by man’s endless dreams about the automobile and his unsparing efforts to make them come true.

At this point in time the efficiencies and shapes of automobiles have been so well developed that, it can be said, there is no lifestyle that can be complete without the automobile component. For this reason, apart from being accepted as the most convenient and fastest vehicle, the automobile also represents “the dynamic lifestyle” that invariably reflects the personality and lifestyle of the owner.

Gradually, man came round to realize how much damage could result from such unrestrained development, and movements to protect and preserve the environment and natural resources began to emerge in earnest from different corners of the world. As a consequence, automobile manufacturers have since been attaching increasing importance to developing production technology. So it can be said that the cycle “nature-vehicle-nature” is now taking place in a remarkable way.

The growth rate of our automotive industry is still on the increase as a result of investment in production plants in the country by large manufacturers of the world who recognize the future potential of Thailand. Such phenomenon not only indicates a bright future for Thailand’s automotive industry, but also provides proof that “Thai Cars” from an assembly line within the country are now of a quality that is comparable to that of the “World Cars”.

Automotive technology has been researched and developed along the vision that gives the highest consideration to human factor value. They are thus not raw cold technologies. Nor are they intended to be slave or master of man. On the contrary, they are intelligent technologies with a human mind, capable of being gentle, considerate, friendly and efficient-all of which are certainly going to be the attributes of automobile in the next millennium.

Motor vehicle is a production that adversely affecting the “world” and its “people”. Therefore the vehicle for the new days must be fuel frugal and can take on alternative fuel also. Besides, it will emit low pollution, be made from materials that are and can be recycled. At the same time it must offer a high performance, ample comfort, utility as well as safety.

Though vehicles are not the only innovation in modern times created through heavy application of art and science, they are nevertheless different from, and more distinctive than, other innovations due to their “dynamics” or hidden propelling force due to “science” e.g. horsepower, torque, acceleration, top speed, etc., and “art” such as the streamlined body that strains to spurt forward.

What essentially determine the direction of future automotive development are the problems created by petroleum today. Many major manufacturers of the world are proceeding on the path of success in innovating vehicles propelled by these forms of energy for the future which are at once powerful, economical, and pollution free typifying characteristics of the emerging future vehicles.

Throughout the past few years, propelled by vigorous support of the Government in the forms of BOI privileges granted to car assembly industry, permission to set up assembly plants freely. So much so that Thailand has now become a significant automotive production hub of the world.

Up to now, motor vehicles in the form of 4-wheel vehicles have inhabited the earth for more than 100 years. They may be the only invention of mankind that combines the most advanced know-how in various fields at any time period in every stage of production demanding continuous development. Especially if we expect merely efficiency and general utility from vehicles, we have to admit that vehicles today are innovations beyond our expectation in every way.

World style, meaning people lifestyle, changes through eras, each with its own identity and particulars that reflect the prevailing mode of life, attire, cultural arts, architechture, personal effects, etc. There is, however, no clear verdict on what actually determines the attributes of world style or lifestyle of each era between consumer's desire and producer's imagination. Or in fact, throughout modern history, both sides "challenge" each other and try to be determinant of the present as well as the future trend of the world.
